மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோயில் வளாகத்திலுள்ள பொற்றாமரைக்குளம் செவ்வக வடிவில்,165 x 120 அடி (37 மீட்டர்) பரப்பளவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. பொன் + தாமரை + குளம் என பொருள்படும் வகையில் பொற்றாமரைக்குளம் என்று இது அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்தக் குளத்திற்கு ஞான தீர்த்தம், முக்தி தீர்த்தம், உத்தம தீர்த்தம், ஆதி தீர்த்தம் போன்ற பெயர்களும் வழங்குகின்றன. இதன் வடக்கு கரையில் உள்ள தூண்களில் சங்கப் புலவர்களின் உருவங்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன. அதோடு தென்கரை மண்டபச் சுவர்களில் திருக்குறள் பாக்கள் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. மேலும், சுற்றுச் சுவர்களில் திருவிளையாடல் புராணக் கதைகள் சித்திரங்களாக வரையப்பட்டுள்ளன. பல நூறு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இந்த பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் கிடைக்கப்பெற்ற படிக லிங்கம், இன்றும் மதுரை ஆதீனத்தில் வழிபாட்டில் உள்ளது.
